Ode to Phil 04:08
We are here to shed light On the unfortunate plight Of a black man whose heights Will never be known in whole May God bless his soul A Chitown night in December Is when we begin to remember A turn of events With deadly consequence My friend was losing composure The brother couldn’t maintain Something terrible was affecting his extraordinary brain So he came to the conclusion that he’d get help from his mother Having no other place to go But the lack of self-control Had already taken hold And this obedient son couldn’t do as he was told He couldn’t sit and relax As his brain was attacked So his mother tried restraint and in a blindness buddy pushed back Mom fell and her leg was hurt so she called the ambulance Buddy’s mind was full of regret Things hadn’t gone as he’d planned The first responders showed up to help because his mom was hurt Police looked for the criminal not the baby that she’d birthed Around that time behind the house Buddy’s dad found Buddy grieving He tried to console his baby boy something was wrong with him that evening As he approached his son’s chest was heaving Wild look deep in teary eyes His arms opened to hug him and received the worst surprise Buddy punched and knocked his hero down As police officers approached their criminal had been found Violently placing him in custody A mouth full of blood so Buddy was unclear When he spoke the last words his dad would ever hear Apologetic remorse his dad trusted officers of the law Not knowing their murderous course Because their emotions were raw While in police custody Buddy’s temper flared so bad That he was tasered beaten and restrained here’s where things really get sad The cops tortured him until they thought he should be hospitalized So they threw him in the squad car for the last ride of his life In the hospital he still was wild but instead of sedating him to calm him They continued the torture to death and the process of embalmment And all I can do is write about how tragically Buddy died Speak out for justice like that’s gonna dry the tears I cried This won’t be swept under the rug Buddy was nobody’s thug Business as usual was how it was played as his grave was being dug It’s been over one year since they snatched our black, shining prince Investigations still under way as they tamper with evidence And all I can do is write about it and put it in a song Hopefully the pain will go away because one of my best friends is gone And the whole thing is so wrong Almost seems like a bad dream The best and brightest of us all didn’t go out like a king They abused their authority and the cops were minorities From a quick look But sometimes what gets mistook For black or brown skin is a badge carrying agent of evil and sin I wish I had names to expose them But it wouldn’t bring Buddy back Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black I would love to expose them But it wouldn’t bring my buddy back Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black And hat can kill you if you’re black Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black Life can drive a person crazy and that can kill you if you’re black…

I cannot be free if you can’t be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free My freedom is tied to you Your freedom is tied to me So let’s be free So let’s be free So let’s be free Freedom is supposed to be universal Not just for your private little circle If the next man is bound You aint free just cause he’s not around His bondage reflects on us all Together we rise Together we fall I just want you to see You’re not free If I am not free I cannot be free if you can’t be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free My freedom is tied to you Your freedom is tied to me So let’s be free So let’s be free So let’s be free Freedom to get out of the ghetto no sell out Making wise decisions nobody says get the hell out Life is spelled out and following directions Should allow us all to get some blessings But stressing over profits Ignoring warnings from the prophets Mind stuck on worldly topics To get free we must stop it The world’s troubles They boil and bubble Remove the heat So that life can be sweet Less war in the world And less death on the street Yo we all can eat But some be stock piling Like they somehow are safe put up on Long Island Out the glare of the poor That’s why I wrote the cure And kept it pure No manure If you want freedom make sure you’re sure I cannot be free if you can’t be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free My freedom is tied to you Your freedom is tied to me So let’s be free So let’s be free So let’s be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free My freedom is tied to you Your freedom is tied to me So let’s be free So let’s be free So let’s be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free I cannot be free if you can’t be free My freedom is tied to you Your freedom is tied to me So let’s be free So let’s be free So let’s be free

do something 04:00
Some people get all sunny days Other folks get rained on always I have learned life aint always fair Hard times seem to be everywhere It’s hard to find somebody who really cares We all feel like we have too much to bear When it really gets sad we go to church and try to throw up a little prayer Cause we remember grandma said that God would be there We gotta do something While we can Cause the time for playing’s Been ran out We gotta do something Woman, man time is running away HEY We gotta do something Work the plan Understand Time’s not on your side We gotta do something Woman, man time is running away All the systems of the world And all the governments Will be forced to reconcile with the power Of divine covenants The dead in Christ rise loving it Because in the twinkling of the eye We will be caught up in the air Paid for and bought way back there On Golgotha between between two thieves So I live like I believe That when He comes back for His church This trumpet player leaves See I was paid for and bought on Golgotha Between them two thieves So I live like I believe When He comes for His church I leave
